An incision just above the pubic area is used to remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. If necessary, the belly button can be repositioned.

Looking for a tummy tuck in San Diego? The tummy tuck, is a major surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen.  The results are long lasting because the muscles of the abdomen are also tightened during surgery.  Ten years ago it was unthinkable to do a tummy tuck outside of a hospital, but advances in surgery, anesthesia and postoperative care make this a routine outpatient procedure today.  However, let me reemphasize that a tummy tuck is still a major surgical procedure and it does produce a permanent scar, which takes a year or more to fade.  Fortunately, though, the scar resides below the panty lines.  Most patients are very happy to trade their abdominal deformity for the resulting scar.  Abdominal contour deformities may result from pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and aging.  In my opinion, however, many are the result of hereditary factors.

Ten years ago, we had one or two options for tummy tucks, but today we have at least six variations that can be utilized depending on the condition of the skin, the fat, and the abdominal muscles.  Our state-of-the-art surgical correction of abdominal contour deformities takes into account all of these variables to provide an optimal result.

Abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is a cosmetic surgery procedure to reshape and firm the abdomen. It involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by women (who are not considering having any more children) and individuals who have abdominal fat deposits which do not respond well to diet and exercise.

There are two broad varieties of abdominoplasty:

* Complete. Requires from about two to five hours

* Partial. Requires from about one to two hours

Compared to most other cosmetic procedures, there is a significant recovery time and discomfort level.  The recovery varies from seven to fourteen days, and good family support at home is mandatory to prevent complications.  Depending on the size and type of abdominal deformity, costs range from approximately $5500 to $8000.
